Municipality of Luleå

The municipality of Luleå is located in the north-east of Sweden, and is the 25 th largest municipality in the country. Luleå is known as a metallurgical centre with a lot of steel industry and research, but is also known for its big industrial harbour.

The municipal waste department is responsible to provide all the municipal waste planning, collection and operation of the treatment plant.

Sunderby treatment plant is the largest plant within the municipality. On the plant there is a big scale composting facility where food- and garden waste is treated.

There are 4 sorting platforms in Luleå where private households can deliver their rough waste, hazardous waste, packaging and cardboard waste. Even smaller companies can use these sorting platforms but in a limited way.

The waste department also provides all control of the old land fills.
